OLHC Education in Faith

Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Primary school is a faith community inspired by the love of God, within the Parishes of St Francis Xavier Montmorency and Our Lady Help of Christians, Eltham.

As a Catholic School, Education in Faith forms a vital part of our curriculum. We believe that there should be a strong bond between parish, school and the parent community.

The Religious Education program from Foundation (Prep) through to Year 6, is developed from Catholic Education Archdiocese of Melbourne's Horizons of Hope documents; Religious Education Curriculum Framework, as well as the ‘To Know, Worship and Love’ texts.  It also draws upon the richness of the Catholic Social Teaching principles, encouraging students’ to learn about the Church’s mission as global citizens.

Our program aims to develop each child's knowledge and awareness of the Catholic Faith and its values. Links are made between the Religious Education content studied throughout the year and the learning of students in other curriculum areas, and importantly with how faith can be enacted outside the classroom. An important part of the children’s learning is their preparation for the Sacraments.

Sacramental Program

Our Lady Help of Christians school is one of three schools within the Catholic Parishes of St Francis Xavier, Montmorency and Our Lady Help of Christians, Eltham.  Our Sacramental program is currently run in partnership with St Francis Xavier and Holy Trinity Schools.  All students and families, no matter their faith denomination are invited to be part of our Sacramental program by the way of Sacrament or Blessing.  Our celebrations of Reconciliation are celebrated in Year 3, First Eucharist in Year 4 and Confirmation is celebrated by our Year 6 children each second year. Our Parish Priests, Pastor in Solidum: Terry Kean and Moderator: Michael Sierakowski lead these Sacraments with such a beautiful, inclusive manner.  Bishop Terry Curtin joins our Parish for the Sacrament of Confirmation and is equally as inclusive.

In preparation for the Sacraments, Adult faith education and family preparation nights for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation take place each year.

We realise that many parents may not have had much to do with the Church, possibly since they were at school themselves. And whilst many of those parents may seek a Catholic education for their child, it could be a daunting thing to be expected to be ‘experts’ in their child’s Catholic Faith. If that is your situation, be assured that we aim to provide support for you in your role as your child’s primary educator. You can be sure that we are here to support you on your journey.
