Wellbeing & Programs

At OLHC, we are dedicated to creating a safe, connected, and supportive environment where students are ready and able to learn. Our student wellbeing practices are integral to our teaching and learning, woven into our classrooms, school priorities, and decision-making processes.

We nurture wellbeing by:

  • fostering a supportive and inclusive community where every student feels respected and cared for, as a Respectful Relationships school in a Catholic context,

  • explicitly teaching social-emotional skills,

  • engaging in whole-school activities that build connectedness, belonging, and positive relationships,

  • developing student leaders and amplifying student voice,

  • embedding the Berry Street Education Model into all of our practices,

  • providing extra support through the Peaceful Kids mindfulness program, and

  • offering one-to-one counseling through our school chaplaincy program.

At OLHC, we are committed to building a caring community where every child feels heard, valued, and supported to thrive.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT

At OLHC, our School Chaplaincy Program offers a compassionate and Confidential one-to-one counseling service to support the emotional and spiritual well-being of our students. Led by our dedicated school chaplain, this service provides a safe space for students to discuss their concerns, navigate challenges, and build resilience. Whether addressing personal issues, academic stress, or social relationships, our chaplain works collaboratively with families and staff to nurture each student’s emotional health and personal growth. We are committed to fostering a caring school community where every child feels heard, valued, and supported.

SWELL

Our SWELL (Student Wellbeing) groups bring students together across multiple year levels to foster a sense of community, connection, and mutual support. Through structured activities, these groups focus on promoting wellbeing, developing peer support networks, and building strong relationships. Students engage in collaborative tasks that encourage teamwork, empathy, and resilience, creating a positive and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. By working together and helping one another succeed, SWELL groups empower students to thrive socially and emotionally while strengthening the fabric of our school community.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Lunch Time Activities

At Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC), we believe in enriching every student's experience beyond the classroom. Our range of lunchtime clubs offers students opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and form meaningful connections.

The clubs we offer are guided by student interest, ensuring they remain engaging and relevant. Current favourites include Art Club, Cooking Club, Gardening Club, and Lego Club. Held during lunchtime throughout the week, these clubs are open to all students, providing a welcoming space for creativity, teamwork, and fun.

At OLHC, there's something for everyone to enjoy—because learning and growth happen everywhere!

Prep Buddies

Buddy Program at OLHC: Building Bonds Across Generations

One of the highlights for both Prep and Year 6 students at Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) is our cherished Buddy Program.

Each Prep student is paired with one or more Year 6 students, fostering a unique and meaningful connection. Through shared activities and lunchtime interactions, these buddies develop a special bond built on trust, support, and friendship.

The Buddy Program not only helps our youngest students feel welcomed and secure but also allows our Year 6 leaders to grow in responsibility and empathy. It’s a heartwarming tradition that embodies the spirit of community at OLHC.

SUPPORTING INDIVIDUAL NEEDS

Learning Diversity

At OLHC we support the individual needs of all of our learners through:

  • understanding our students and how they learn

  • recognising and responding to specific needs

  • providing adjustments in the learning environment, delivery of lessons and planning for student success

  • supporting the medical needs of our students

  • communicating with families regularly

  • using our resources in a careful and considered way

As students grow and develop, new needs may emerge. At OLHC, we are committed to identifying these needs and working collaboratively with families and external agencies to ensure every child receives the support they need to thrive.
